Your child’s safety is your priority... And ours
Safety is an intrinsic part of all Vélo Québec activities, and the On the Move to School! initiative is no different, especially since it involves young people, including your own child. All our activities and informational materials thus emphasize safety guidelines and tips. Our role is to provide you with information and to assist you with your effort. You can then decide how your child will get to school based on age and ability, the distance to be travelled and the urban environment in your area. The Vélo Québec team will be there to help.
Concrete benefits
Walking or biking to school is not only fun, it’s also very good for your child:
- Increases the amount of time devoted to moderate physical activity (from 20 to 40 minutes per day), which helps reduce your child’s risk of obesity and the associated health problems.
- Enhances safety in the area around the school by reducing traffic and the risk of accidents.
- Gives your child an opportunity to acquire good values and develop healthy habits that can last a lifetime.
- Makes your child more self-sufficient, an essential part of education and the development of social skills.
- Improves concentration in class, like all physical activity.
- Lets your child learn and have fun by exploring the neighbourhood where you live and getting to know people in the community.
- Allows you and your child to do something concrete for the environment, by reducing atmospheric pollution.
